Redesign Account Management Workflow
Overview and Old Design
The platform concerned here is a portfolio reporting website. The primary users of the workflow were business operations. Their task was to manually input accounts and portfolios in the portfolio management system and also maintain this information. Before the redesign the web screen looked as shown on the left. My task was to formalize the workflow, create wireframes for new workflow, test wireframes and implement the web pages.
The users of this tool were clearly unhappy and wasted a lot of time completing their tasks by devising manual work arounds. Given that in finance sector the information of any account and portfolio is important, there was a lot of sensitivity associated with this information.
The first step I took towards revamping this platform was to study the data model used for storing account information. It was a large set of data with too many data points not being used actively and hence creating confusion. This prepared me for the next step, interviewing the users. I conducted a semi-structured interview and along with the answers to specific questions, I obtained additional feedback and pain points. Compiling the user expectations gave me a jumpstart towards formalizing the workflow.
